Being born and raised in one of the cultural centers of the world, New York City, Kim Brown developed a passion and love for art at an early age. Her career as an artist began when she was afforded the opportunity to study art at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and later in Florence, Italy. The curriculum she studied highlighted illustration and the traditional style of design, paste up, typography, and fine arts. Kim obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from F.I.T. in 1995 and began her transition into a graphic designer shortly after.
The traditional training she received did not prepare her for the changes that were occurring in the art industry. Companies were no longer looking for illustrators or paste-up artists, they needed people who were computer literate in programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash and Quark Xpress. Kim took the initiative to learn these skills on her own and today, she is able to use these skills to excel in the graphic design industry. With knowledge in hand, she began Light Brown Productions and they have done work for various companies including AT&T, Scholastic, Laingdon Hotel, PH Properties, ENSR International, Resort Maps, PBS Sports Gallery, Cambridge Health Alliance, The Center for New Words, Modern Publishing, Christmas in April, Columbia FunMaps, and many more.
